With its soft handle and large, characterful flecks, this 100% wool yarn is spun using traditional woollen methods that echo the charm of classic homespun Donegal yarns.

Supplied on cones with spinning oil to aid long-term storage, the yarn reveals its true qualities after a thorough wash. We recommend hand washing in warm water with soap or a gentle wool wash—possibly more than once. Once washed, the fibres bloom beautifully, resulting in a noticeably softer handle and, in some cases, slightly brighter colour.

As with all woollen spun yarns, we strongly recommend knitting or weaving a swatch and washing it before beginning your project. The yarn typically tightens slightly lengthwise and may relax a little across the width. With its fairly high twist, it may knit on a slight bias when worked in stockinette in the round—this usually corrects itself after washing and blocking. The yarn can be used as a heavy fingering weight when held single, or doubled to achieve an Aran-weight gauge.
